The 'Do Makes A Comeback for Fall/Winter 2009
Fall/Winter Hair Trend #1: New Classics
"Timeless styles including chignons, French twists, and men?s-inspired quiffs, are making a comeback on the runways," says Fernando. "These looks are made modern and relevant through the texture, shape and volume." The most important element of this trend is getting the right texture and foundation in the hair. This is done by applying Redken thickening lotion 06 body builder to damp hair then rough drying with a blow-dryer. To achieve the classic French twist with height and texture as done at the Louis Vuitton show, after rough drying, curl hair to create even more texture, backcomb with a focus on the top and back of head then pin into a messy French twist. Don?t worry about keeping every strand in place. The rough disheveled look is what makes this classic style modern, soft and romantic.
Fall/Winter Hair Trend #2: Height of Fashion
"Volume is definitely a must-have look for the fall," says Fernando. "However, this season?s volume is concentrated in the height of the look as seen on the runways of Jean Paul Gaultier, Pollini and Marc Jacobs, rather than all over volume." To achieve the extreme height as seen at the Pollini runway in Milan, Fernando suggests trying out Redken rootful 06 root lifting spray. Mist product on damp hair concentrating at the roots then blow-dry hair upwards using a paddle brush, once dry, backcomb hair for added height and pin into a twist.
Fall/Winter Hair Trend #3: Masculine/Feminine
"This look is a chic pairing of tough and soft, classically feminine styles toughened up with a slick finish, or a mixture of sleek and soft textures on the same head of hair," describes Fernando. "The hair at Versace was a nod to the '80s, with a cheeky combination of sleek up front and wild in the back." To get this look, Fernando suggests slicking on Redken hardwear 16 super strong gel from roots to above the nape of neck and applying it in layers from the bottom up. Then curl remaining hair in random sections and backcomb to add fullness. Finish off the look with Redken quick dry 18 instant finishing spray.
Fall/Winter Hair Trend #4: Texture Variations
"This season?s styles featured unique finishes that complements every style," exclaims Fernando. "This was seen at shows like Prada, Chloé, and Calvin Klein." For this trend, many women will love to try the loose textured waves like the ones seen at Chloé. "This look is flattering to all women and easy to create!" says Fernando. Apply Redken full frame 07 protective volumizing mousse to damp hair, rough dry then curl section by section and loosely set against head and let cool. Once all sections are done, release curls and gently brush through with a paddle brush. Blast hair at roots with a blow-dryer for added volume and texture. These are all strong, positive and forceful looks that can each be adapted to suit different personalities, hair types and face shapes. Any woman can carry these looks with the right stylist recommendations and products. Experiment with your hair and have fun! These styles can enhance your look and bring out the best in you this season!
